It really is amazing how much can change in a year. I guess I’ve had one of those significant moments. One year ago I really thought my life was over. I was existing but because of Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME)/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) I felt I had no life, no enjoyment, no fun and no expectation of any improvement – just deterioration. I was exausted all the time and ached like I had the flu constantly. I thought this is it, this is what my life is going to be like forever, but I chose to believe that there was an alternative and I decided to act, to stop things deteriorating more.
A year ago I signed up with Noom. By getting my dietary choices and activity levels sorted out I was able to turn this around, not only do I have more energy and am able to live the life I would like now, i have discovered something very powerful. I am in control, me not the CFS. Yes, it still flares up and sometimes its because I do ‘stupid things’ – usually sugar related (hello Haribo). However I now know that the power is in my hands – I choose what to eat, whether or not to exercise. This is not an advert for Noom but I have to recognise the benefit of that subscription and the knowledge and tools etc that I have developed. I now have a toolkit I can refer to and use to manage my CFS.
This blog is not going to be an account of me living with CFS although it will feature, its going to be about my steps to realising my big picture – to live the life i want fully – to have the energy (and time and money) to go to meet friends in coffee shops whenever I want, to go off exploring – so this blog is about my journey – visits with friends and exploring places of interest to me – I’m starting off with a trip to Edinburgh and a week away in Sheffield – I look forward to sharing my adventures with you and I wonder where I will explore afterwards
